Living on the Earth - the Musical, is Alicia Bay Laurel's original, one-woman, two-act, autobiographical storytelling and music show, featuring quirky, edgy stories about the creation of her beloved bohemian guide to living in nature, Living on the Earth. This particular performance, on November 13, 2016 is unique - she is joined onstage by her mentor and collaborator from over four decades earlier, composer/philosopher Ramón Sender Barayón, with whom she co-wrote Being of the Sun and the songs in the book's accompanying album. That performance occurred in the midst of Spanish filmmaker Luis Olano's weeks of interviewing and filming Ramón for his bi-lingual documentary film "Sender Barayón: Viaje Hacia la Luz," released in 2018. https://vimeo.com/297566542 Luis agreed to film Alicia's entire performance in exchange for the use of some of her original recordings on the soundtrack of his film, thereby beginning an enduring collaboration. In 2017, Alicia helped edit the English subtitles for "Sender Barayón." In 2020 and 2021, Alicia and Luis collaborated on editing this film. A train runs through the performance, because the Arlene Francis Center for Spirit, Art and Politics, in Santa Rosa, California, began its useful life as a train station. https://arlenefrancis-center.squarespace.com/#home-section Living on the Earth's 50th anniversary, 5th English language edition was released by Echo Point Books & Media in February 2021, and is available here: https://www.indigowithstars.com/products/living-on-the-earth-5th-english-edition-50th-anniversary-edition Being of the Sun was released on October 1, 2021, also from Echo Point Books & Media, in its first English language edition since the original Harper & Row edition in 1973, and is available here: https://indigowithstars.com/products/being-of-the-sun-2021 Alicia Bay Laurel's other books, recordings, posters, and other printed works are available here: https://www.indigowithstars.com/ REVIEWS Review by Los Angeles theatre critic, Pauline Adamek:
